A night of discovery of some lesser known Scottish distilleries Craig Merson, Scotsman and owner of the Whisky Company in Melbourne regaled us with some interesting trivia about Angus Dundee PLC, owner of Tomintoul Distillery in the prestigious Speyside-Glenlivet region and Glencadam Distillery in Brechin, eastern Scottish Highlands. Both distilleries produce large volumes for blending which is Angus Dundee's main line of business. Tomintoul prides itself on being the "Gentle Dram" and matures it's single malt in bourbon casks with some expressions released as sherry finishes such as the 12YO Oloroso we tasted. An evening with Great Southern Distilling Company Craig Merson from The Whisky Company out of Melbourne took us through the Limeburners range and shared a his experiences and insights with us in a thoroughly entertaining event. We started the evening with the Tiger Snake sour mash whisky which was really well received. If production can be increased as planned with no loss of quality this could be a hot seller at under $100.  What we found interesting is that Limeburners are trying really hard for consistent quality and taste and avoiding batch releases. The Exchange World Whiskies Part 2 Event We welcomed Dan Woolley to host our first event of 2017, taking us on another journey into the wider World of Whisky. Dan expertly guided us through the history, lore and tasting of the Bowmore 18YO, Canadian Club 20YO, Laphroaig Quarter Cask, Hakushu Distillers Reserve, Makers Mark 46, & Auchentoshan Three Wood.
