An evening with Tasmanian Whisky Legend, Tim Duckett
Heartwood's Tim Duckett will team up with Destination Cellars during Tasmanian Whisky Week for an evening of great drams in the beautiful surrounds of RACV Hobart Hotel on Thursday August 11th at 7.30pm.
You are invited to join us to celebrate some fabulous Tasmanian whiskies along with the first ever Brandy from Heartwood. We will have a selection of new and extinct rare releases for you to try along with Local Absinthe, produced by Louis Duckett and Jack Lark.
Heartwood is run by local alchemist Tim Duckett (aka Mr H). Heartwood has won countless awards on some of the most prestigious whisky stages over the past decade for his high octane independent bottlings (and his other, more approachable brand TIB is now following suit).
He sources spirit from Tasmania, mainland Australia, and New Zealand based on its texture and flavour profile. It is then matched to a specific barrel type. They use a vast variety of barrel types for maturation of the spirit including: Sherry, Port, Bourbon, Muscat, Botrytis, Virgin oak, Rum, Bourbon/Rum, Sherry/Rum, Tokay, PX, Rye, Whisky & beer. Also they will have oats, rye, & apple spirit.
Here's a line up to make you salivate:
1. TIB Ramblings of a Madman # 2
Vatting of Port and Sherry casks matured for a 2nd time in a 1st fill Cognac/Brandy cask. Bottled at 51.9%.
2. TIB Peated Vatted Malt #2
Vatting of bourbon and sherry cask with Adams peat. Bottled at 50.4%.
3. Heartwood “ Not Far from the Tree” Apple Brandy
The first ever Brandy from Heartwood. It has been produced with spirit from Charles Oats Distillery (Willie Smiths) and matured in an oloroso sherry cask. Bottled at 56%.
4. Heartwood “ Fed by the Fuels of Malcontent and Disillusionment”
Surely one of the best names of any Heartwood to date. A single malt originating from full strength Nant Distillery distillation finished with a Heartwood twist. Started it's life in two Sherry casks before being moved to a 50 yo vintage port cask. Bottled at 58.5%.
5. Heartwood “Nothing Left to Chance”
A single distillation from Redlands Estate Distillery matured in two consecutive muscat casks. Bottled at 55.6%.
6. A Heartwood Surprise
As usual, Tim Duckett will have something special to show us. We can't tell you much as even we don't know what it will be, but knowing Tim I'm sure it will be pretty special.
7. Gypsy Whisky Co “Local Absinthe”
Dangerous stuff produced by Louis Duckett and Jack Lark. This phenomenal local absinthe produces the classic flavours of wormwood, fennel seed, aniseed and more, but also incorporates the native lemon myrtle. The spirit is also macerated after distillation to impart more character and to mellow the spirit. Bottled at 60%.
Tickets are $85 per person and must be booked in advance as seats are limited.
Stock of selected items will be available to purchase at discounted rates to attendees, plus finger food, and good times will be provided.
