Destination Cellars invite you to a special whisky event on Wednesday evening August 28th at 7pm in the beautiful surrounds of Hadleys Orient Hotel.
Join Prasad Ganga, Amrut's Regional Export Manager & Brand Ambassador, on the evening of Wednesday 28 August for an exclusive Amrut Masterclass in Tasmania.
Amrut has been one of our favourite distilleries since we opened. With countless international awards and a propensity for ingenuity and experimentation, Destination Cellars has embraced these industry superstars and given the people of Tasmania access to their wonderful drams. Amrut have returned the love by sending Prasad to Hobart especially for this event.
The story of Indian Single Malt Whisky begins at Amrut Distillery, in Bangaluru.
The Jagdale family created their first new-make in 2002, and Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky was launched in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2004.
Turning to ancient Indian legend as inspiration for the Distillery name, legend tells that Angels who sought immortality, churned the mythical Ocean of Milk to obtain the Elixir of Life. They did this using Mount Mandara as the pestle and the divine serpent Adhishesha as the rope. After much churning, Amrut emerged — the drink that confers immortality.
Here is the fabulous line up:
1. Amrut Fusion, 50%
This is the whisky that put 'New World Whisky' on the map. Jim Murray’s Third Finest Whisky in the World for 2010, Fusion is made from 75% unpeated Indian barley and 25% peated Scottish barley. These are distilled separately and aged for four years, then 'fused' together for a further three months. The result is an award-winning whisky that has introduced many people to the splendor of Indian whisky.
2. Amrut Naarangi, 50%
"Naarangi", Hindu for orange, this is one truly innovative whisky. Aged for three years in a oloroso sherry cask, the cask was then seasoned with wine and orange peel and aged for another 3 years creating a very distinctive dram.
3. Amrut Madeira Cask, 50%
This expression from Amrut was limited to less than 5,000 bottles world-wide. Finished in hand picked Madeira casks from Portugal, this type of expression is a first for an Indian Whisky.
4. Amrut Intermediate Sherry, 57.1%
Intermediate Sherry, like its Port counterpart (Portonova) is created by initially maturing in a combination of ex-bourbon and new American oak casks, followed by maturation in sherry casks before returning to ex-bourbon casks for its final stint - hence the name 'Intermediate Sherry'. A truly spectacular example of a sherry cask whisky.
5. Amrut Portonova, 62.1%
A whisky that requires no introduction to DC customers, "PFN" Portonova is first aged in a combination of new american oak and ex-bourbon barrels, then moved to refill port pipes and then back into ex-bourbon casks. Jim Murray said it best "I have never come across such a flavour profile as this anywhere in the world. But my word, what a statement it makes". A cult classic.
6. Amrut Single Cask, Rye Cask, 60%
Limited to just 120 bottles, this is an Australian exclusive release, single cask and bottled at near cask strength. Made with European rye and aged for five years in American oak, this is fruity and floral with notes of sweet spice. A unique whisky that's both elegant and rich.
Tickets are $60 each and must be booked in advance as seats are limited.
Attendees will have access to exclusive pricing on all Amrut whisky on the night. Your ticket includes all drams, finger food and good times.
