Belgrove Distillery 'Wholly Shit' Rye Whisky - Gordon Ramsay Edition 1
For his second batch of rye whisky smoked with sheep poo, Peter Bignell teamed up with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay on his 'Untamed Tasmania' TV series. While at Belgrove Distillery, Ramsay and Peter Bignell, talk all things whisky, farming and food, with Ramsay getting his hands dirty shovelling the sheep poo that is used to create Wholly Shit - for which he gets credit for on the back label.
Peter has always been at the forefront of self-sustainability and for this release he employed the help of his Belgrove sheep. Whereby, the sheep eat the spent distillery grain and then their dry manure is burned instead of peat to produce this smoky (peated?!) dram.
Belgrove is widely claimed to be the greenest self-sustaining distillery on the planet, with its bio-fuel coming from the local fish and chip shop oil. It is one of a very few whisky distilleries in the world that grows all it's own grain, malts, ferments, distils and barrel-ages on site. In his spare time, you will find Peter competing in sand sculpting and ice sculpting around the globe.
