Glenglassaugh Whisky Event in Hobart
Friday September 20th at 7pm we welcome Glenglassaugh back to Hobart
Destination Cellars invites you to a very special whisky event with the multi award winning Glenglassaugh Distillery in the beautiful surrounds of Hadleys Hotel. The event will be hosted by Brand Ambassador Seamus Carroll, who will delve into Glenglassaugh’s unique history and introduce a very special range of whiskies including the recently released Octaves Batch #2.
Glenglassaugh Distillery is located at the east end of the beautiful Sandend Bay, and was founded by Colonel James Moir in 1875. He quickly established a reputation for making a quality whisky and the company prospered. He ran the distillery with his two nephews until 1892, when Glenglassaugh was purchased by Highland Distillers. After being completely re-built in 1960, the distillery continued to produce whisky until 1986 when it was mothballed.
The distillery sat silent for over 20 years until it was purchased by a group of investors and started production again in December 2008. In 2013, the BenRiach Distillery Company (some of our all-time favourite drams!) took over Glenglassaugh distillery with the intention to bring this iconic distillery fully back to life by giving it the investment, commitment and care it deserves.
Glenglassaugh is produced using the highest quality of Scottish barley and traditional distilling methods, our key focus being on quality. While many distilleries have become highly automated, the Glenglassaugh spirit is still handcrafted by a small, highly skilled team dedicated to creating the highest quality product. Only the finest casks are selected to slowly mature the precious spirit in their coastal warehouses until it is ready.
Here's a line up to make you salivate:
The Revival - the first expression released from Glenglassaugh distillery after being mothballed for more than 20 years. Matured in a balanced mix of ex-red wine and fresh bourbon casks, vatted and re-racked for double maturation in rich sherry casks. Bottled at 46%, non chill filtered and of natural colour, Revival is a stunning Highland single malt with a coastal charm.
Evolution is created by maturing the whisky in a unique combination of the finest hand-picked ex-Tennessee first-fill whiskey barrels. This expression shows great depth of character and finesse, a harmonious combination of whisky and oak. Bottled at 50%, natural colour and non chill filtered, Evolution represents the heart of Glenglassaugh’s distinctive personality, and the landscape in which it is set.
Torfa - Glenglassaugh also produce a very limited quantity of whisky using richly peated malted barley which has been dried in the traditional way, over peat infused kilns, giving the whisky its unique smoky flavour. ‘Torfa’, with its peaty, phenolic nature, is a unique expression, and is quite different to the usual style of whisky produced in the Highlands. Bottled at 50%, natural colour and non chill filtered.
Port Wood Finish - The elemental freshness of their coastal spirit is invigorated in Glenglassaugh Port Wood finish. Whilst finishing in ruby Port pipes, the oak’s open structure combines with the influence of the sea, as waves of dark fruit and chocolate notes ebb in harmony with fresh mint and fruit zest. Bottled at 46%, natural colour and non chill filtered.
Octaves Classic Batch #2 - we are very excited to be showing you the second batch of Glenglassaugh Octaves Classic. Octaves are small casks holding just 65 litres of whisky which imparts loads of flavour to the whisky in a short period of time. This dram features a juicy sherried profile, matured in octave casks made with wood from bourbon, Pedro Ximénez and Amontillado casks, creating a rich and complex dram with big helpings of dried fruit, nuts and jam notes. Bottled at 44%, natural colour and non chill filtered.
Octaves Peated Batch #2 - the peaty edition of the second batch is a smoky spirit aged in a selection of small 65-litre octave casks, themselves made from casks that previously held bourbon, Port and Oloroso sherry. It's a rich and sweet dram with balanced savoury peat smoke. Bottled at 44%, natural colour and non chill filtered.
Tickets are $60 per person and include all drams, light snacks, and the chance to buy some really great drams at a great price.
