11 Year Old Bunnahabhain Sherry Cask Matured by Gordan & Macphail
This indie Bunnahabhain was produced by Gordon & MacPhail. It has been aged for over a decade and bottled for the Discovery series at 43% ABV. The bottling series is colour coded, so this we can tell from this expression that it's an unpeated single malt which showcases the rich, sweet, fruity flavours coming from the sherry cask maturation.
This expression is a great example of both a heavily ex-sherry style, and of a coastal Bunnahabhain whisky. The nose has lovely marmalade citrus notes with a fruit syrup quality and a salty coastal hit. The palate is sweet, but complex with flavours reminiscent of a damp forest floor, orange pith, ginger bread cookies and a seaweed like umami character. A lovely oily texture ensures the finish is long and sustained.
