Heartwood and TIB Whisky Event
Tuesday August 13th at Destination Cellars
Heartwood & Tasmanian Independent Bottlers will team up again with Destination Cellars this Tasmanian Whisky Week to give you one of the best independent whisky line ups this side of the Black Stump.
TIB is run by local alchemist Tim Duckett (aka Mr H), producer of the famed high-octane Heartwood brand, who has created TIB to offer a more gentle style of whisky with less 'mongrel' than the Heartwood releases. Heartwood has won countless awards on some of the most prestigious whisky stages over the past decade and TIB is now following suit.
He sources spirit from Tasmania, mainland Australia, and New Zealand based on its texture and flavour profile. It is then matched to a specific barrel type. Currently they have selected 13 barrel types for maturation of the spirit including:
Sherry, Port, Bourbon, Muscat, Botrytis, Virgin oak, Re-educated 2nd fill, Rum, Bourbon Rum, Sherry Rum, Tokay, PX, Rye (soon), Whisky beer. Also they will have oats, rye, & apple spirit. Exciting times.
Here's a line up to make you salivate:
TIB 'The Craft' the first TIB Vatted malt at 48.1% abv Ex Bourbon (90%), Ex Sherry (10%)
TIB FL 011 the second of the Fleurieu trilogy. It is a "big sherry". Just what the old fella Mr H likes, bottled at 49.2%
TIB RD 010 a sneak peak at a yet unreleased Sherry cask matured single malt from Redlands Estate (now Old Kempton)
TIB FL 007 The third in the Fleurieu trilogy. Aged in a Sherry cask in a lighter, slightly sweeter style than FL 011, bottled at 46.8%
Heartwood 'Market Correction' 64.7% TD0053 from Sullivans Cove. Casks : Port, Muscat, Sherry, Sherry. This is not a blending of different casks. Four different casks were used in the maturation of the one spirit.
Heartwood 'Dregs #3' 61.8% Cask Types: 'TFMTM' - for those of you who like a good acronym, have a guess at what it stands for. With whiskies aged in casks as diverse as: Tokay, Muscat, Sherry, Port, and Bourbon (as well as both peated and unpeated spirit), a combination of all the good stuff that couldn't be wasted.
TIB Awards: The Wizards of Whisky World Whisky Awards 2019 Australasian Producer of the Year 2019 Tasmanian Independent Bottlers. 2018 Independent Bottlers Challenge Winner.
