Campbeltown's Kilkerran 12 Year Old Single Malt from sister distillery Mitchell’s Glengyle.
Mitchell’s Glengyle Distillery announced the launch of its 12 Year Old Kilkerran Single Malt in August 2016, the first global age-statement release from the Campbeltown-based whisky producer.
The distillery re-opened in 2004 after originally operating from 1872-1925, Mitchell’s Glengyle is under the ownership of Mr Hedley Wright, chairman of Springbank Distillery and descendant of Glengyle’s founder William Mitchell.
The distillery has been producing its Kilkerran Single Malt since March 25th 2004 and has bottled a series of releases under the Work In Progress label over the last few years.
Kilkerran 12 year old was matured in a marriage of bourbon (70%) and sherry (30%) casks and bottled at 46% ABV. Like the Work In Progress series - and all releases from Glengyle’s sister distillery Springbank - the whisky has not been chill-filtered and no caramel colouring has been added. The whisky is double distilled in the traditional Scottish style and is produced from lightly-peated malt at around 12-15ppm.
