The Legendary Old Raj Gin from WM Cadenhead with an Islay Twist!

Old Raj gin has been produced since 1972 by WM Cadenhead, an independent bottler based in Scotland. This gin is made with nine botanicals: juniper berries, orange and lemon peel, coriander seed, angelica root, orris root, cassia bark, almond powder and saffron. All of the botanicals are distilled with the base spirit except saffron, which is infused with gin following distillation because of its delicacy - it also gives the gin a slight yellow tint.

The extra maturation in Caol Ila Whisky Cask (for 299 days) gives the gin a hint of vanilla along with a subtle smokiness, without being overpowering, it's well balanced and not just a whack of smoke in the glass. Dirty Martini anyone?!? Try the recipe recommendation from Cadenhead below:

Old Raj Dirty Martini

60ml Old Raj Caol Ila Cask Gin

15ml Dry Vermouth

Barspoon of Olive Brine

3 drops Orange Bitters

Stir all ingredients over ice in a mixing glass and strain into a chilled cocktail glass – garnish with either 1 or three olives
