Hailing from the tropical shores of Goa, this exotic Indian single malt, in rich shades of dark copper, has complex aromas of fig and apricot with a rare hint of banana. On the palate are tremendous flavours of sweet barley with creamy butterscotch, dry fruits and Christmas cake. The finish is long and exquisite, with delectable chocolate fudge, delicate orange peel and hints of exotic wine drenched nuts. Much of the intrinsic characteristics of the Paul John PX owes allegiance to the famed intensely sweet and dark Spanish dessert sherry, having been finished in handpicked Pedro Ximénez casks.
This PX edition was aged for five years in first fill ex-Bourbon casks followed by two years in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, creating a rich and luscious dram bursting with flavours of chocolate fudge, dried fruits and creamy butterscotch. Kudos to Master Distiller/Blender Michael D'souza and the whole Paul John team for this wonderful dram.
When Mr. Paul P John decided to create single malt whiskies in India, he traversed the lanes of Scotland to learn about its distilleries and whisky culture. Starting his company in 1996, he soon launched The Great Indian Single Malt to award-winning acclaim.
Skilfully chosen indigenous ingredients and the warm environs of Goa, double-distillation in copper pot stills with long necks, and maturation in white oak barrels create the magic that is Paul John Single Malts.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Apricot marmalade on toast, mocha, spice, stewed plums, figs and raisins
Palate: Sweet barley with creamy butterscotch, espresso, raisins, sultanas, apricot, chocolate mousse, butterscotch and perhaps a touch of mint chocolate too.
Finish: Long and exquisite, with chocolate fudge, orange peel, exotic wine drenched nuts, festive spices and chocolate peanuts.
