Tomintoul & Glencadam Evening at Destination Cellars
A night of discovery of some lesser known Scottish distilleries
Craig Merson, Scotsman and owner of the Whisky Company in Melbourne regaled us with some interesting trivia about Angus Dundee PLC, owner of Tomintoul Distillery in the prestigious Speyside-Glenlivet region and Glencadam Distillery in Brechin, eastern Scottish Highlands.
Both distilleries produce large volumes for blending which is Angus Dundee's main line of business. Tomintoul prides itself on being the "Gentle Dram" and matures it's single malt in bourbon casks with some expressions released as sherry finishes such as the 12YO Oloroso we tasted. The 'people's winner' of the evenings tasting was Old Ballantruan 10YO, the Peated expression form Tomintoul. Runners up were the Glencadam 15 ( A multiple award winning whisky) and the Glencadam 21 YO respectively.
